Mostert's 76-yard catch-and-run is first 49ers TD of 2020

The honor of the first 49ers touchdown in the 2020 NFL season belongs to running back Raheem Mostert.

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo hit Mostert in stride on 1st-and-10 with 9:53 remaining in the first quarter, and it was off to the races for the speedster. Mostert ran right by Arizona Cardinals first-round draft pick Isaiah Simmons in his route and went untouched for a 76-yard touchdown.

The score gave the 49ers a 9-0 lead. A Robbie Gould extra point made it 10-0.

Mostert's touchdown was eerily similar to running back Jeff Wilson Jr.'s game-winner against the Cardinals last season at Levi's Stadium. While Wilson's TD came out of a different formation and had him beating a defensive end instead of a linebacker, it was the exact same route. If it's not broke, don't fix it.

Mostert broke out for the 49ers last season, and plans to build off that with a new contract. This was the exact start coach Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers were hoping for.
