The Trey Lance hype train left the tracks early on in training camp, and although the 49ers' rookie quarterback looked mortal during Friday's practice, Lance showed fans a glimpse of the future during Saturday's open practice at Levi's Stadium.
With fans in attendance for the first time since the 2019 NFC Championship Game, Lance and second-year wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk electrified The Faithful with two dynamic hookups.

While Lance has been the talk of training camp early on, coach Kyle Shanahan has been quick to pump the breaks on any talk of a quarterback competition in Santa Clara. Although, Shanahan did reveal Friday that Lance will get plays during the 2021 season as the 49ers have been installing a Lance package during camp.

“Trey is going to play for us this year,” Shanahan said. “Whether it’s -- I know you’re all going to run to Twitter. Situationally, he is going to get plays. That doesn’t mean he is going to be the starter or anything. He is going to get plays and you have to prepare him for that in every way possible."
It's not yet Lance's time to take the reins for the 49ers but that doesn't mean he hasn't impressed his teammates.
“Trey is an outstanding talent. It’s hard to deny that," left tackle Trent Williams told KNRB. "You see him throw the ball and you seem him run the ball and you know that’s a generational talent. We’re lucky to have QB1 and QB2 be extremely talented, and they both have what it takes to get us where we need to go.
“Trey has just turned 21. I don’t think it would be a good thing for anybody if someone tries to rush him. We have time to let him develop and personally I think that’s what’s best. Trey has been developing at a very high speed, but for right now Jimmy is in control, and I think everybody is okay with that.”
