Jimmy G has NSFW description for throwing with injured thumb

On Tuesday, Jimmy Garoppolo threw a football for the first time since the 49ers' Week 16 loss to the Tennesee Titans, in which he injured the thumb on his throwing hand, and described how it felt.

“It f--k, it hurts," Garoppolo said Wednesday via video. “I don’t know how else to describe it. It feels like the webbing in your hand is kind of tearing a little bit. Yeah, that’s probably the best way I can describe it. But it’s all good."

The veteran quarterback shared that he felt good shortly after a “pretty good throwing session” Tuesday, but the following day when he woke up, his injured thumb was quite sore. Garoppolo reports that he and the medical staff will take his rehabilitation day by day.

Garoppolo and the training staff still are trying to find the best method to tape his thumb that will give him the most support possible without hindering his ability to throw. The quarterback knows he will not be 100-percent for the rest of the season, and how much he will be able to do Sunday vs. the Los Angeles Rams will determine whether he will be on the field for the offense’s opening drive.

“It’s definitely a fine line,” Garoppolo said. “As far as playing, I’m going to do everything I can to be out there. It’s a big one. Whatever I can do to be out there, I’ll be out there. At the same time, you got to be smart and think about what is going to be best for the team to win. You just got to be smart with all those decisions you make.”

Garoppolo shared he is a “live in the moment” type of person, which is keeping him from thinking about if playing could cause a longer healing process or even surgery in the offseason. The goal at the moment is to attempt to let the two bones in his hand reattach.

While the team does everything possible to speed up the process, Garoppolo knows that nature will need to “do its thing” in his recovery. One thing is certain, that the veteran quarterback would prefer to be on the field with his team in Los Angeles, helping to make sure they punch their ticket to the playoffs.
