Injuries pile up for 49ers, adding to insult of loss in Dallas

The 49ers lost more than the game in their 41-33 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

In a season already ravaged by injuries, the 49ers might have lost a few more players heading into their final two games of the 2020 season. Jimmie Ward sustained a concussion and Raheem Mostert appeared to aggravate his ankle injury.

After the loss, both Fred Warner (stinger) and Jeff Wilson (ankle) announced that they came out of the game no worse for the wear.

Nick Mullens temporarily loss sensation in his arm near the end of the game. He explained that his hand took a hit and his elbow was “jammed” while colliding with a Cowboys defender. The quarterback would not comment on his status for Week 16, indicating that further evaluation and testing will be done Monday.

Along with potentially losing Mostert for the last two contests, the offense could be without Richie James Jr. who left the game with an ankle injury. On the other side of the ball, defensive lineman Dion Jordan and safety Tarvarius Moore both left the game early with a knee injuries.

The 49ers have already had dozens of players spend time on injured reserve. Of the few who have returned to the field, many have re-injured themselves after playing in games. The injuries could be partially blamed on an over enthusiasm by players to return, but ultimately a truncated off season kept players from being in “football shape” from the beginning.

While the season has been very disappointing for the 49ers, Warner believes the mettle of the players in the locker room is exemplary and lacking any desire to throw in the towel.

Garafolo: Purdy's 49ers contract could come ‘close to' Prescott's

“It means a lot,” Warner said. “It just shows the character of the type of guys we have on this team. It’s so easy to take the easy way out in a year like this when we are losing games and there’s more chance of a risk of injury when you’re going out there playing hurt but guys want to help the team win games.

“That’s my mindset every week and I’m proud of the guys who are fighting through those injuries trying to help us win games.”
