Aside from the Jimmy Garoppolo saga that saw the veteran quarterback go, well, nowhere, the biggest storyline from the 49ers' offseason was Deebo Samuel's contract.
The drama finally ended on July 31 when Samuel agreed to a three-year extension worth $73.5 million.
Samuel and his agent, Tory Dandy of Creative Artists Agency, didn't accept the 49ers' first offer, but it did prompt a hilarious reaction from the star receiver when discussing the deal on an "Overtime SZN" feature.

"Damn, that's a lot of chicken!" the 49ers' star exclaimed.
He's not wrong.
The new contract, which includes the sixth-highest cap hit ($25.2 million) among NFL receivers in 2022, is a major uptick in pay compared to the $495,000, $844,800 and $1.1 million Samuel is making in his first three NFL seasons.
“When he told me the offer I’m like, ‘You’re lying,’ " Mahogany Jones, Samuel's girlfriend, said in the feature. "He’s like, ‘No, I’m serious.’

“We knew this day was coming, but to actually see it ... We just both sat back and were like, ‘Wow.’ "
"I’ve never seen those kind of numbers in my life," Samuel added. "Especially with my name right beside it."
Still, though, Dandy wasn't satisfied. There were elements of the contract that still needed to be tweaked.
"I haven't countered this yet," Dandy said in the feature, which was filmed in July. "We need to [increase] that guaranteed money. This ain't the NBA. Even if you've got a big initial number, you need to make sure you've got the right guaranteed structure. ... You've got to make sure to be patient."
Samuel and Dandy went back to general manager John Lynch and eventually got things sorted out in the early days of training camp to the delight of the 49ers Faithful.

A hamstring injury forced Samuel to miss the 49ers' 31-14 win over the Los Angeles Rams, but he played in the team's first seven games, logging 525 total yards and three touchdowns.
Samuel and the 49ers are resting Sunday during their Week 9 bye, but will return to the field on Nov. 13 for a non-conference bout against the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium.
