49ers to stay in AZ for practices, games for rest of season

The 49ers will maintain their dual residency in Arizona as they duel NFC West opponents in their final two games of the regular season.

The 49ers announced on Friday they will play host to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 17 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona on Jan. 3.

The club's decision came after the County of Santa Clara announced an extension of their COVID-19 restrictions through Jan. 8. The ban includes all contact sports.

The 49ers first received word of the ban as they boarded a flight for their Week 12 game against the Los Angeles Rams. The 49ers were not allowed back into their home county for practices or games, which necessitated an abrupt move to Arizona.

The 49ers played “home” games the past two weeks in Arizona — losses to the Buffalo Bills and Washington.
