49ers should pursue Wentz to replace Jimmy G, Simms says

The controversy surrounding injured 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has created conversation on whether or not he needs to be replaced next season.

Jimmy G suffered a high ankle sprain in the first half of the Week 8 game against the Seattle Seahawks. This, of course, is in addition to the high ankle sprain he sustained earlier in the season that forced him to miss time.

Many names have been thrown out there to replace Garoppolo, including Atlanta Falcons’ Matt Ryan. And the latest name? Embattled Philadelphia Eagles signal caller Carson Wentz.

“I would have no problem with that,” NBC Sports’ Chris Simms told NBC Sports Bay Area's Laura Britt this week. “I think that would be a great match. Carson Wentz is very talented. I think I said this last week where, when you’re surrounded by crap, crap is going to get on your arm every now and then.”

“His offensive line is crap, his offensive receivers are crap, the running backs are crap, so, therefore, the quarterback looks kind of crappy,” Simms said.

Simms added Wentz is one of the few individuals who could overcome situations where he’s surrounded by, well … crap, but he’s also had some special moments.

Last season, Wentz was a big reason as to why the Eagles were in the playoffs. He also has a Super Bowl ring on his hand, though he wasn't the quarterback in the win over the New England Patriots. Now, his team sits at a 3-8 record and he has been replaced by rookie Jalen Hurts.

Wentz has accumulated 2,620 yards with 16 touchdowns this season, and Simms sees him as a good fit with the 49ers’ offense.

“I think you put him with Shanahan, and he doesn’t have to do everything on every play, I think that could work and work really, really well,” Simms said.

The 49ers are 24-8 when Jimmy G is starting, so him being out certainly is noticed.

Don’t worry, there are plenty of people in Jimmy G’s corner, but that won’t stop the speculations from happening.
