Here we go again.
A week after five 49ers sustained leg injuries on the newly installed turf at MetLife Stadium, tight end Jordan Reed injured his left ankle and left knee in the first quarter Sunday against the New York Giants.
Reed rolled his ankle while trying to catch a pass in the back of the end zone, and he grabbed his knee on the same play. He went to the 49ers' locker room soon after.

SIGN UP HERE The 49ers initially said Reed was questionable to return, but he did play again in the second quarter. However, Reed later received attention on the sideline on his left knee in the second half and went to the locker room early. Coach Kyle Shanahan told NFL on Fox reporter Pam Oliver that Reed is out for the remainder of the game with the knee and ankle injury.
Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, running backs Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman and defensive linemen Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas all sustained knee or ankle injuries in the 49ers' Week 2 win over the New York Jets. Bosa and Thomas are out for the remainder of the season after suffering torn ACLs, and the 49ers expect Coleman to miss at least a month with a knee sprain. Garoppolo (high ankle sprain) and Mostert (sprained MCL) all did not practice this week and didn't suit up Sunday against the Giants.
Reed started in place of George Kittle for the second straight week. Kittle injured his MCL in Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals, and he was a limited participant in practice. Reed caught seven passes (on eight targets) for 50 yards and two touchdowns in Week 2 against the Jets.

Reed, 30, has an extensive injury history. He nearly retired after missing the entire 2019 season once the tight end was diagnosed with his seventh documented concussion. Reed has never played 16 games in a season.
Behind Reed, Ross Dwelley and Charlie Woerner are the 49ers' only active tight ends. Dwelley caught four passes for 49 yards in the first half.
