Jason Verrett quickly has turned into one of the best stories in the NFL this season. The 49ers cornerback is the embodiment of perseverance, and now that he's healthy, he's back to playing like his Pro Bowl self.
The latest example is Verrett being named Pro Football Focus' Defensive Player of the Week after the 49ers' 24-16 Week 6 win over the Los Angeles Rams.

Verrett's 94.0 overall grade was the best by any cornerback in Week 6. He didn't allow a single catch against the Rams, broke up two passes and intercepted quarterback Jared Goff in the end zone. It was Verrett's first interception since Week 1 of the 2016 season.
Through the first six weeks of the season, he has allowed a passer rating of just 7.8 this season, the lowest of any qualifying corner.

The 49ers took a chance on Verrett last season, and he suited up in just one game. But they always saw his talent. They brought him back this year, and though he has missed two games to injury, his one-year contract at just slightly over $1 million has been a steal. As Richard Sherman continues to have injury setbacks and Emmanuel Moseley missed 2 1/2 games, Verrett has been one of the 49ers' best players and once again has shown off his skills when healthy.

At any point in his seven-year career, Verrett could have called it quits. He missed the entire 2018 season to a torn Achilles, and between 2016 through 2019, he played only six total games due to multiple injuries. But Verrett held tough, and it's paying off this season for San Francisco.
