The 49ers have made a veteran addition to the linebacking corps, agreeing to terms with former Green Bay Packer James Burgess, his agent told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Friday morning.
NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco confirmed Schefter's report, adding that the deal won't be signed until next week.

Burgess played in four games with Green Bay in 2020, finishing with three total tackles.

His most prolific season came in 2019, when he racked up 80 tackles over 10 games after being promoted to the active roster midseason. Burgess also had five pass deflections, an interception, a forced fumble and a safety.

The 49ers brought in veteran linebacker Brandon Marshall for a workout on Thursday, but appear to have decided Burgess was the best addition to this defense under new coordinator DeMeco Ryans.
