49ers activate Williams off COVID-19 list before Rams game

Left tackle Trent Williams was activated Saturday off the NFL's reserve/COVID-19 list, apparently clearing the way for him to be in the starting line for the 49ers' game Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams.

Williams and backup linebacker Joe Walker, who was also activated off the list, are listed as "questionable" for Sunday's game, the 49ers announced.

Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, and defensive linemen Jordan Willis and D.J. Jones remain on the COVID-19 list and ineligible to play in the key NFC West matchup.

Also, the 49ers made roster moves to activate running backs Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson, and NFL All-Decade cornerback Richard Sherman from injured reserve. Each of those players will be eligible to return to action Sunday.

The 49ers elevated four players from the practice squad to the active roster to suit up against the Rams.

Defensive lineman Alex Barrett is a standard practice squad elevation, while the team announced offensive lineman Tony Bergstrom, and defensive linemen Darrion Daniels and Willie Henry Jr. as COVID-19 replacement.

The 49ers placed nine players on the NFL’s reserve/COVID-19 list during their bye week. Defensive line starters Arik Armstead and Javon Kinlaw were activated late in the week and are eligible to play against the Rams.

The 49ers are also expecting the return to wide receiver Deebo Samuel from a hamstring injury. Samuel was not even listed on the 49ers’ injury report on Friday, a sign that he has been fully cleared to play against the Rams.

Mostert last played in the 49ers' Week 6 game against the Rams. He remains the team's leading rusher 303 yards on 51 rushing attempts for a 5.9-yard average.

Wilson has not played since his 112-yard, three-touchdown performance against the New England Patriots in Week 7.

Sherman has not played since the 49ers’ Week 1 loss to the Arizona Cardinals due to a lingering calf issue. Jason Verrett and Emmanuel Moseley have been the 49ers' starting cornerbacks for most of the time Sherman has been sidelined.

Samuel, Richie James and Kendrick Bourne will see most of the action at wide receiver as the team looks to compensate for Aiyuk’s absence.

Kevin Given is likely to see his most playing time of the season with Jones out of action.
