In the least shocking news of the day, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell danced around questions about why former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has remained unsigned since he opted out of his contract on March 3, 2017.
"I’ve said it many times privately, publicly that our clubs are the ones that make decisions on players that they want to have on their roster," Goodell told the media during his State of the League press conference in Atlanta on Wednesday.
Back in 2016, Kaepernick started kneeling during the national anthem to protest the social injustices plaguing the country.

Following his departure from the 49ers, Kaepernick remained unsigned through the 2017 offseason. In October of that year, he filed a grievance against the league alleging that teams were punishing him for his peaceful protests.
Goodell was asked again about Kaepernick and put the onus on the teams.
"I think if a team decides that Colin Kaepernick or any other player can help their team win, that’s what they’ll do," Goodell said. "They want to win, and they make those decisions individually in best interest of their club."
So, apparently, a guy that led the 49ers to the Super Bowl can't help a team win, but Mark Sanchez was worthy of a contract with Washington.
