Richard Sherman supports idea of 49ers pursuing Antonio Brown, Earl Thomas

Antonio Brown wants out of Pittsburgh, and if some current 49er greats are listening to some of old, San Francisco will make a push for the dynamic receiver.

Eric Davis, who played cornerback for six seasons in San Francisco and won the 1995 Super Bowl with the 49ers, recently took to Twitter to encourage current 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman to pursue and secure Brown.

Oh, and if that's not shooting high enough, he wants Sherman to get former All-Pro free safety Earl Thomas, too.

The 49ers have needs at both the wide receiver and free safety positions, and Brown and Thomas would certainly invigorate the team with talent and experience they'll be hard pressed to find in any alternatives. That said, assuming San Francisco is interested in each of them, they won't be the only ones.

Several NFL stars have already made their pitch to Brown after seeing him request a trade from the Steelers, and that's bound to continue.

Whereas it would, in all likelihood, require a trade to acquire Brown, since he remains under contract with the Steelers, acquiring Thomas would be far simpler.

The six-time Pro Bowler has spent his entire career with the Seahawks and is due to become a free agent next month. He suffered a season-ending leg injury in Week 4 this past year, and as Thomas exited the field on the injury cart, he could be seen displaying his middle finger toward the Seattle sideline.

If a former Seahawk defensive back having ill feelings towards Seattle sounds familiar, well, it should. Sherman spent the first seven years of his career with the Seahawks, but made the transition to the rival 49ers last offseason after feeling disrespected by the Seattle organization for what he deemed to be a lack of loyalty after he suffered a season-ending Achilles injury.

Sherman certainly outperformed expectations in his debut season with the 49ers, and one wonders if his success returning from a serious injury would give San Francisco confidence that Thomas could do the same.

Given that Sherman and Thomas shared a defensive backfield for the greater part of seven highly successful seasons together, you can bet Sherman will be advocating for his former teammate.

It remains to be seen if the 49ers will seriously pursue either of the high-profile veterans, but it's evident they'll have no shortage of people encouraging them to do so.
