The New York Giants have reportedly granted permission to the 49ers to interview Tom Coughlin for their head-coaching vacancy.
Coughlin, who resigned as Giants head coach last week, is scheduled to interview with the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday. The Giants also granted permission to the 49ers to speak with Coughlin, reports Mike Garafolo of FoxSports.
Teams need permission from the Giants to interview Coughlin because he resigned with one year remaining on his contract.

Coughlin, 69, spent 12 sesaons as the Giants coach. His teams posted a regular-season record of 102-90. The Giants reached the playoffs five times under Coughlin and won Super Bowls XLII and XLVI -- both over the New England Patriots.
Coughlin also coached eight seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, compiling a 68-60 record. He was the organization’s first coach after being granted an expansion franchise. After going 4-12 in the inaugural year of 1995, the Jaguars made the playoffs four consecutive seasons, going 4-4 in the postseason.
Coughlin becomes the sixth known candidate to replace Jim Tomsula, who was fired after a 5-11 season.
The 49ers also had known interviews with former Philadelphia coach Chip Kelly, Cincinnati offensive coordinator Hue Jackson, Buffalo assistant head coach/running backs Anthony Lynn, Cleveland offensive coordinator John De Filippo and Tampa Bay offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter.
