It's a logical fit for Smith, considering former 49ers general manager Scot McCloughan currently works as Seahawks senior personnel executive. There was an obvious reluctancy for quarterback-needy teams to even consider Smith early after the free-agent signing period began. After all, Smith said he expected to re-sign with the 49ers. And coach Jim Harbaugh said the 49ers organization was "lock step" in the belief that Alex Smith was "our guy," he said repeatedly.REWIND: Harbaugh wants Alex Smith back with 49ers
But now the 49ers have shown interest in signing free-agent Peyton Manning and Smith is obviously not satisfied with the 49ers' three-year offer. The door is open for other teams to investigate the possibility of signing Smith. The Seahawks and Dolphins have both visited with free-agent quarterback Matt Flynn, who served as Aaron Rodgers' backup for four seasons with the Green Bay Packers.
