Mike Singletary has been out of football for two years, but the determined coach and Hall of Fame linebacker wants another shot at being in charge of an NFL franchise.
He confirmed as much this year.
“I didn’t want to be a linebacker coach again," Singletary told The Big Lead regarding talks he's had with teams regarding defensive coordinator positions.

"I’ve been studying my tail off since I left San Francisco to become a coordinator at the very least, and hopefully become a head coach. When that didn’t happen, I began to work that much more, visiting coaches and learning everything I could possibly learn, primarily on offense.”

Singletary, 57, reportedly interviewed with the New York Giants on Thursday for the vacancy at linebackers coach.
He did not receive an offer, according to the New York Post.

Singletary's last gig in the pros came as an assistant head coach under Leslie Frazier with the Minnesota Vikings.
Before that, he had a six-year stint with the San Francisco 49ers, serving as an assistant head coach and linebackers coach (2005-2008), interim head coach (2008), and head coach (2009-2010).
Singletary finished 18-22 in games as San Francisco's head coach before he was fired, but made notable connections with players like Patrick Willis and Vernon Davis.
“For me, I’m coaching because I really want to change lives, I want to make a difference, I want to make the game better,” Singletary said. “That’s the thing that I have been busting my tail on in the past year and a half, doing everything I want to do.”
