Report: Shanahan interested in bringing QB Schaub with him to 49ers

Matt Schaub could be headed back to the Bay Area.

Kyle Shanahan, the current Falcons offensive coordinator and presumptive 49ers head coach, has interest in having the former Raiders quarterback follow him to San Francisco, according to ESPN.

Schaub is currently Matt Ryan's backup in Atlanta and is set to become an unrestricted free agent.

The 49ers' quarterback situation is unsettled with starter Colin Kaepernick expected to opt out of his deal and Blaine Gabbert also an unrestricted free agent.

The 35-year-old Schaub has thrown 93 passes over the last three seasons with the Raiders, Ravens and Falcons, including just three passes this season.

Schaub saw action in two games for the Raiders in 2014 and completed 5 of 10 passes for 57 yards and two interceptions.
