The Broncos are still avidly searching for another quarterback to add to the roster.

As discussions with the 49ers over Colin Kaepernick have been prolonged, Denver has reportedly been in contact with free-agent Johnny Manziel, according to ESPN.

Head coach Gary Kubiak has had a dialogue with the former first-round pick, but the Broncos want to see how Manziel's pending legal issues and potential NFL discipline plays out.

The 23-year-old passer was released on March 11 after a rocky start to his NFL career, on and off the field.

Manziel has played in 15 pro games, starting eight, while throwing seven touchdowns to seven interceptions.

He is 2-6 as a starter.

Kaepernick and the Broncos must agree on a new contract before Denver and the 49ers can work out a trade. Once the player and the Broncos come to a contract agreement, the pieces are expected to fall into place for a 49ers-Broncos trade, a source told CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco.
