The 49ers reportedly opened their coaching search with a request to interview Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson.
The 49ers and Miami Dolphins made requests Monday to interview Jackson, reports NFL Media.
Jackson was head coach of the Raiders in 2011 before getting fired after his only season. The Raiders finished with an 8-8 record, a mark that is still tied for the team’s best record since 2003.

Jackson has served as the Bengals’ offensive coordinator the past two seasons. The Bengals rank seventh in the NFL in points scored and won the AFC North this season.

The 49ers are not able to interview Jackson this week. The Bengals open the playoffs on Saturday at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Once the Bengals are eliminated, Jackson will be free to accept any head-coaching offer.
This is the second time in five years the 49ers have requested permission to interview Jackson. The 49ers spoke with Jackson, then the Raiders’ offensive coordinator, about their head-coaching search in January 2011. The 49ers ended up hiring Jim Harbaugh, and Al Davis promoted Jackson to Oakland's head coach to replace fired Tom Cable.
