With the first pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Rams selected Jared Goff from the University of California, Berkeley.
Goff grew up in Marin County, rooting for the 49ers.

Now, as a member of the NFC West, he will play against his childhood team twice a year.
“I think it would be great,” Goff said in mid-March about the possibility of playing for the 49ers. “It would be a really cool thing. Growing up a fan of them, it would be awesome.
"But at the same time, I’d be more than happy to play anywhere and go to a team and a coach that I want to win games with and be successful with.”

The Rams were in position to take Goff because on April 14, Los Angeles acquired the top pick in the draft from Tennessee.
Over three years at Cal, Goff completed over 62 percent of his passes for 12,195 yards.
He threw 96 touchdowns against 30 interceptions.
The 49ers host Goff and the Rams in Week 1 on Monday Night Football.
San Francisco plays in Los Angeles on Christmas Eve.
