Raiders WR Murphy to Carolina

Louis Murphy, who led the Raiders in receptions in 2010 but had only 15 catches and no touchdowns last year, has been traded to Carolina, according to a report.

Yahoo Sports' NFL reporter Jason Cole tweeted the following shortly after 10 a.m. Monday.

Comcast Sports Net Bay Area's Kate Longworth confirmed the report from sources with knowledge of the situation.

There was no mention of what the Raiders received in exchange.

Murphy was perhaps caught in a numbers crunch, with the Raiders having a mix of depth and youth at the position.

Juron Criner, the Raiders' fifth-round pick in 2012, turned heads at minicamp as a potential red-zone specialist with a big body (6-3, 221) and sure hands. Undrafted rookie Rod Streater also caught head coach Dennis Allens eye.

Add the improving Darrius Heyward-Bey, the electric Denarius Moore and speedster Jacoby Ford, and suddenly, theres real competition at the position.

Oakland selected Murphy with the 24th pick of the fourth round in the 2009 NFL Draft.

He had a team-high 41 catches two seasons ago, but Murphy went down with a freak injury during the Raiders 59-14 romp over the Broncos in Denver in 2010. His collision with teammate Marcel Reece resulted in a bruised lung, and Murphys production hasnt been the same since.

Raiders Insider Paul Gutierrez broke down the numbers: In 23 games before the lung injury, Murphy had caught 55 passes for 858yards (15.6 yards per reception) and five touchdowns. Since the injury, Murphyhas caught 35 balls for 513 yards (14.7 yards per catch) without a score in 18games.
