Raiders leave Green Bay healthy, ‘no one is panicking' after loss

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Raiders didn’t do much well in in Thursday’s 20-10 preseason loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Still, head coach Jack Del Rio started his press conference with a positive.

“We came out healthy,” Del Rio said. “That’s a good thing.”

No Raiders were worse for extra wear, which was the real positive after losing Mario Edwards Jr. and Gabe Holmes to injury last week against the Cardinals.

That, at its core, is all that really matters while moving through the preseason. The rest of it can be corrected over the next three weeks.

Del Rio knows the Raiders didn’t show well despite his starters playing the entire first half, he also knows it isn’t the end of the world and that the Raiders remain a work in progress.

“I thought we started slow on defense, we struggled to run it and we were minus-2 in turnovers,” Del Rio said. “There are a lot things we need to work on, to go back and correct. It wasn’t the sharp showing we were looking for, but we’ll learn from mistakes and move on.”

That was the generally take away among Raiders players, who weren’t overly concerned with the result.

“It’s nothing to worry about,” quarterback Derek Carr said. “We’re going to be just fine. We’ll get things corrected and move on to another game next week.”

The Raiders want to be good running the football and stopping it, and they didn’t display either skill on Thursday night.

“This is the preseason,” cornerback Sean Smith said. “. We will just keep moving and get back to work.”

Del Rio wanted to get his starters some extra work, with a high play count that resulted in the first units playing the entire first half. He thought it a good time to get some extra reps.

“We had an opportunity to get some good conditioning,” Del Rio said. “I thought we did that. Nothing major there. We needed the work, and that was good to do.”
