Raiders down Bears 25-20 thanks to six Janikowski field goals

BOX SCORE

The Raiders held on to defeat the Chicago Bears 25-20 to improve to 7-4 on the season.DHB plays: A week after being taken off the field while strapped down to a stretcher with a neck injury, receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey started and caught the first pass the Raiders threw, picking up 18 yards and a first down. Later, he was seen getting his neck massaged on the sidelines and he finished with four catches for 42 yards.Hanie helps Raiders: The Bears quarterback was the Raiders' best player in the first half, throwing three interceptions, one each to cornerback Stanford Routt, safety Michael Huff and linebacker Kamerion Wimbley. At one point, Caleb Hanie had a 2.8 passer rating. Still, he threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Johnny Knox with 4:41 left in the half to give the Bears a brief 7-6 lead.Speaking of penalties: A week after coach Hue Jackson's lament about the amount of flags thrown at his team, the Raiders had just one penalty, for four yards when Lamarr Houston was offsides, in the first half. Oakland finished with six penalties for 44 yards.Where's the explosiveness?: The Raiders are showing just how much they are missing their explosive playmakers on offense. The absence of Darren McFadden, Jacoby Ford and Denarius Moore showed through in the Raiders inability to score a touchdown in the first half. Throw in the fact that the Raiders were also without rookie speedster Taiwan Jones, and Oakland was missing a lot of speed.A humbling day: Not that left tackle Jared Veldheer needed to be humbled -- he's one of the most down-to-Earth players in Oakland -- but a week after shutting out Jared Allen, who was then leading the NFL in sacks, Veldheer was twice victimized by Julius Peppers in the first half, and also drew a penalty flag early in the third quarter.Record day for SeaBass: Sebastian Janikowski's six field goals set a franchise record, bettering the five he kicked three previous times, most recently on Nov. 18, 2007, at Minnesota, and by Jeff Jaeger in 1994.Fourth-quarter scoring drought ends: Michael Bush pounded it in from three yards out with 3:51 to play, ending the Raiders' fourth-quarter scoring drought at 21 series, dating to their victory at Houston. They had not scored in the final quarter since a Janikowski field goal with 10 minutes to play at Houstonon Oct. 9six games ago. Entering the day, the Raiders had run the ball 42 times for 130 yards and completed just 21 of 46 passes in the final quarter for 294 yards with five interceptions and three sacks.Kick to Hester?: : Devin Hester has already returned 12 punts for touchdowns in his six-year NFL career, with two this season. And Raiders punter Shane Lechler was not in favor of kicking it to him. Hester ended up returning TK punts for TK yards. Plus, Lechler set a franchise record with an 80-yard punt with 10 minutes to play in the game. Lechler had a 77-yarder in Denver in the opener this season to tie the mark of Wayne Crow set in 1963.
