Quarterbacks on the move while Kaepernick stays put, for now

The quarterback carousel is moving around the NFL while Colin Kaepernick remains in place with the 49ers –- at least for the time being.

The Denver Broncos on Friday acquired quarterback Mark Sanchez from the Philadelphia Eagles for a 2017 conditional draft pick, the team announced. The acquisition of Sanchez will not likely have much impact on the Broncos’ pursuit of Kaepernick.

Sanchez, 29, appeared in 13 games the past two seasons with the Eagles under new 49ers coach Chip Kelly. In 2014, he completed 64.1 percent of his passes for 2,418 yards in nine games with 14 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Meanwhile, former Washington quarterback Robert Griffin is scheduled to visit the New York Jets, reports ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Griffin could also be a possibility with the 49ers if the team ends up trading Kaepernick.

The Broncos and the Cleveland Browns are considered the top candidates to acquire Kaepernick in a trade with the 49ers. The Jets have also expressed interest to the 49ers in acquiring Kaepernick, who remains under contract to the 49ers. The Jets are continuing to pursue other options in case they are unable to re-sign Ryan Fitzpatrick.

As CSNBayArea.com reported on Thursday, the 49ers are in no hurry to move Kaepernick, instead holding out for the right price. The 49ers have told teams, according to sources, that they will keep Kaepernick on the roster if the compensation does not meet their demands.

But the 49ers and Browns are in “general agreement” regarding the draft-pick compensation for quarterback Colin Kaepernick, Mike Silver of the NFL Network reported. The Browns and Kaepernick’s agents have not made progress on a restructured contract that would be a necessity for a trade to occur, Silver reports. Meanwhile, the 49ers and Broncos have not agreed on compensation, but Siliver reports the Broncos and Kaepernick’s side have engaged in “productive” talks about a restructured contract.

Kaepernick's representatives asked the 49ers two weeks ago at the NFL Scouting Combine for permission to seek a trade. General manager Trent Baalke and Kelly said it was their intention that the 49ers would retain Kaepernick and have him compete with Blaine Gabbert for the starting job. It is not known if Kaepernick would report to the beginning of the 49ers' offseason program on April 4 if he remains on the 49ers' roster.
