49ers safety Dashon Goldson was a guest on SiriusXM NFL Radio's Late Hits on Tuesday, and spent some time touching on his contract situation. The 49ers placed the franchise tag on Goldson, and Monday is the deadline for the two sides to agree on a multi-year deal. If a deal isn't done, he and the 49ers will not be able to negotiate a new contract until after the final game of the regular season. Here is a partial transcript of Goldson's interview on Late Hits:
On the offseason
Its been kinda lonely. You know Id love to be there with my teammates, without a doubt. Unfortunately Im on the business side of things (right now). Its just one of those things. But Im feeling good. Ive been working out with all these trainers just picking their brains and adding different stuff to my game. Im at a stage where Ive been in the league going on six years now and Ive been training for a while. So its good to go and bounce around and see what other trainers have. Theres a lot of guys in different leagues that have trainers. They always speak on their trainers so I like to go out there and test them out and see what they got. And they all been great so far. I love em all and they have been tremendous. This whole offseason for me. Ive been working out with Jay Glazer as well. Thats a guy just stepping up, stepping out of my box a little bit with the training and as a football player. Just developing different techniques I can use and add to my game. Im in a position where I want to accomplish a lot. Just be there and be that guy for my team. And I havent been there all offseason so Im sure they're working hard and I gotta do the same thing.
Is it like a second lockout offseason?
Yeah, it feels that way. Mine was a little extended last year due to contracts and all that like I said, its unfortunate i'm on that side of the business, but Ill be well prepared when I get back in to camp.

Optimism on having extension by July 16
Ill let that stay between my agent and the organization as far as those negotiations. Im hoping something long-term will happen, but like you said i'm not taking anything personal. I look at it as a business move on their part. Thats just the business. So i'm not taking anything personal. (something about the tag). Any guy would love a long-term, six years. I played on a one-year last year after a four-year deal. One-year, one-year is not what any football player wants because we all know what we put our bodies through and what we do for our football teams and stuff like that. But I mean its all good. Theres no love lost or anything like that. I just hope something will get done. And if not, ill still be a 49er
On Michael Griffin (Titans) as a helpful blueprint for contract
Im sure it helps. A lot of guys complaining about nobodys getting signed, nobodys getting signed. Mike griffins a great player. Hes a good friend of mine and i'm excited for him. He does a lot for that football team and hes well deserving of what he got. I wouldnt say it would hurt. And if it does i'm not an agent so I wouldnt know how. I'm sure those guys figure that out. I'm not an expert in that area.
