
The 49ers made the decision to remove Colin Kaepernick from the starting lineup and name Blaine Gabbert the No. 1 guy in San Francisco.
Coach Jim Tomsula, however, noted it was for this week.
"I met with the quarterbacks Monday and made the decision to go with Blaine Gabbert this week," Tomsula said. "(I) feel that's the direction we need to go."

But this could end the Kaepernick era, as the team has the option to get out of his contract without much penalty.
Gabbert is the starter for now, and is under contract through the 2016 season. Whether or not he will earn a legitimate shot to start next year remains to be seen.
