Oakland to give Raiders stadium presentation at NFL meeting

The NFL has invited the cities of St. Louis, San Diego and Oakland to present stadium proposal updates to important committees connected to possible NFL relocation in a Nov. 11 meeting in New York City.

The committees on Los Angles, stadiums and finance, will convene next week to discuss the possibility of moving teams to the L.A. area. The Rams, Chargers and Raiders are all unsatisfied with their current accommodations and have eyes on the country’s second-largest media market.

The Rams are working on a stadium proposal in Inglewood and the Raiders and Chargers have gone in on a privately financed stadium proposal in Carson.

St. Louis and San Diego have made these pitches before in attempt to keep their teams from leaving. Oakland has never been invited because their hasn’t been much progress to present.

It’s possible there could be some soon, with a development firm set to deliver a stadium proposal to Oakland and Alameda County in the near future. If it’s approved by those entities, it could be presented to the NFL and the Raiders as a solution to keep the Silver and Black in the East Bay.

Raiders owner Mark Davis said last week that he hopes to remain in the East Bay, but needs help to do so.

“We need help from the community as well to get something that our fans, the NFL and the Oakland Raiders can be proud of,” Davis said during last week’s NFL public hearing on possible Raiders relocation. “We don’t have that right now, and we want it. It can’t be done in Oakland if everyone doesn’t come together to find a solution.”

Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf gave the following statement on the Raiders and fans before the city makes its case to the NFL:

"I want to thank Raiders fans from across the Bay Area and the team's ownership for their powerful showing last week. I know it's a big part of why the City of Oakland will have the opportunity to make a strong case to the team owner Mark Davis and the NFL for keeping the Raiders in Oakland.

"At the meeting next week the City of Oakland will demonstrate to the league how Oakland continues to be a tremendous market for the Raiders franchise. We'll show how everything from Oakland's growing economic momentum and urban vitality to the team's die-hard regional fan base make it clear that there is no better time for a major league team to be located in, or associated with Oakland.

"We know this hasn't been an easy road and we appreciate the patience and persistence of the team and its fans. We remain committed to a partnership that supports a team-centered effort to build a new stadium for the Raiders in Oakland that will be successful for the fans and the team and responsible for the city and its taxpayers."
