Not far away? Davis sees 49ers' path back to contending

Despite going 5-11 in 2015, Anthony Davis doesn't think the 49ers are too far away from being a contender again.

His view while away from the team has remained quite optimistic.

In fact, after Chip Kelly was introduced as the organization's new head coach on Wednesday, the 49ers tackle Tweeted a plan the team could execute this offseason that could help them rebound in a big way in 2016.

And it's all about the resources...

Shortly after the hiring was announced last Thursday morning, the five-year pro took to Twitter to share his excitement.

"I love playing in offenses that are a pain in the a-- for teams to prepare for," Davis said. "Once a defense is questioning if they're prepared, they're dead."

While away from the 49ers, Davis has continued to insist that he will return to the team.

Earlier this season, he posted a photo of himself on Instagram in a 49ers home uniform with the message: "Keep that spot warm for ya boy."

After head coach Jim Tomsula was relieved of his duties following San Francisco's season finale, Davis updated fans, saying it was "guaranteed" that he would return.

Davis, 26, was a first-round pick by the 49ers in 2010. He started 71 games at right tackle from 2010-2014 before sitting out the 2015 season.

He currently resides on the team's reserve/retired list, with the 49ers retaining his rights.
