Defensive end Nick Bosa will return to practice Monday for the first time since sustaining a right ankle injury Aug. 7 on the 49ers’ practice field.
Bosa’s status for the 49ers’ season opener next Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be determined by how he responds to returning to the practice field, 49ers general manager John Lynch said on a conference call with Bay Area reporters.
“He’ll be ready for practice on Monday,” Lynch said. “How that goes, we’ve seen that with some other circumstances and situations, where a guy is looking really good, then you got to go practice and play."

“Particularly at Nick’s position, where he’s going to be playing against big bodies, and you got to be able to turn and all of that, that’s a big step. But he’ll be ready for practice on Monday and we’ll see where it goes from there.”
Bosa, the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, got off to a good start at 49ers training camp before sustaining the injury. He sat out of each of the 49ers’ four preseason games.
