NFL rumors: Joey Bosa, Chargers agree to record-setting contract extension

You can close the book on any hopes of Nick Bosa playing with his older brother, Joey, on the 49ers next season.

The elder Bosa brother reportedly has agreed to a record-setting contract extension with the Los Angeles Chargers, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Joey Bosa was set to hit the free-agent market at the conclusion of this coming season, but now will remain with the Chargers for the foreseeable future. He registered 11.5 sacks last season, one shy of his career high.

Many 49ers fans had dreams of the Bosa brothers coming off both edges of San Francisco's defensive line -- a terrorizing sight for any quarterback, to be sure. However, given how valued edge rushers are in today's NFL -- and paid accordingly -- the chances always were slim, and would have likely required Joey to take a salary below his market value.

Clearly, his value is at the top of the market.
