It appears Derek Carr really won’t be part of the Raiders’ NFL trade deadline fire sale.
The team has “gone out of their way” to assure the quarterback that he won’t be dealt by Tuesday’s league deadline, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Sunday, citing sources.
Schefter added that Carr is expected to remain the Raiders’ starting QB this season “likely next season,” according to sources. The latter seems to not rule out the possibility that Carr could be shopped during the offseason.

It has been a rough season for Carr, capped by a recent report that he had lost the Raiders’ locker room during their sudden downward spiral. But Carr’s older brother David -- himself a former NFL quarterback -- said Raiders coach Jon Gruden told Derek he planned to build around the QB, young offensive linemen and the three first-round draft picks the team now holds.
Gruden has insisted the Raiders aren’t tanking this season. He also has said he won’t trade anyone else, with stars Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper already out the door. We’ll see if that’s all true in the coming days and weeks.
