
Adrian Colbert was the 49ers’ starting free safety at the end of his rookie season and the beginning of 2018.
But this season will begin with Colbert not holding a spot on the team’s 53-man roster.
The 49ers informed Colbert of his release on Saturday, reports Matt Barrows of the The Athletic. All NFL teams must trim their rosters to the regular-season limit of 53 players by Saturday at 1 p.m.

Colbert aggravated a hamstring injury in the 49ers’ final preseason game on Thursday night and will likely be waived/injured. Any team can put in a waiver claim for Colbert.

A seventh-round draft pick in 2017 from Miami, Colbert finished his rookie season strong and went into last year as the starter. But he struggled while making six starts and sustained a season-ending high-ankle sprain.

Colbert lost his place on the depth chart, as second-year defensive back Tarvarius Moore replaced him early in training camp. Jimmie Ward also has a spot ahead of Colbert on the depth chart.
