ALAMEDA - Raiders defensive tackle Richard Seymour was fined 25,000 bythe NFL for his open-palm strike to the facemask and chin of Pittsburghquarterback Ben Roethlisberger late in the second quarter of Sundays35-3 loss to the Steelers.
Seymour, though, was not slapped with a suspension, as speculatedearlier, and will be available for the Raiders game against Miami onSunday. Both teams are 5-5.
Well, first of all, I thought I let my teammates down, Seymour said afterSundays game. You never want to do anything to hurt the team. Thatsfirst and foremost. It was a lot of ongoing, and youre out there toprotect yourself. Its still no excuse. Im not sure exactly whathappened on the play. I just turned around, and he just ran up on mequick. It was just natural reaction.
Seymour was asked if he had been grabbed prior to striking Roethlisberger.

I couldnt really recall, Seymour said. It just kind of happened quickly. It was what it was.
Asked if Roethlisberger said anything to prompt him, Seymour said, Youheard a lot of stuff going on. I never complain about what happens inthe trenches. Youve never heard me complain about anything that goeson. Like I said, my main focus is on the team and not doing anything tohurt the team.
You have to watch it on the (TV). Im not sure why he ran up on me. Im not sure why he ran up on me.
Raiderscoach Tom Cable was not sure if Seymour would be penalized for hisejection-causing action during his weekly Monday media conference, which occurred before the fine was announced.
"Whats happened hadhappened," Cable said. Like everything I believe, hell learn from it.He texted me last night and feels bad about it and knows he was wrong, and well move forward.
