NFL Draft 2020: Best available players Raiders should target on Day 2

Day 1 of the 2020 NFL Draft is in the books for the Raiders.

The Silver and Black added dynamic, game-changing speed by selecting Alabama wide receiver Henry Ruggs at No. 12. Then, they went with a tough, physical cornerback by selecting Ohio State's Damon Arnette at No. 19.

General manager Mike Mayock and coach Jon Gruden didn't trade down. They didn't find a way to pick up the coveted second-round pick. So, they'll enter Friday's Day 2 of the draft with three third-round picks, and a long time to wait until they go on the clock at No. 80.

With more than a few surprises in Round 1, there are several talented, impact players remaining on the draft board.

(These will be broken down by positional need, with the best player at the position available, a second-round option should the Raiders find a way to move up and a third-round target.)

Defensive tackle

Best available: Ross Blacklock, TCU
Blacklock likely will hear his name called early in Round 2. He's got the size, quickness and explosiveness to develop into a dominant interior threat, but he must improve his pass-rush moves to reach his ceiling.

Possible second-round pick: Marlon Davidson, Auburn
Davidson is a scheme-versatile defensive lineman who can play anywhere along the front. He has the foot and hand quickness to beat blockers and would be a rotational three-technique with high upside.

Third-round target: Raekwon Davis, DT, Alabama
At 6-foot-7, 328 pounds, Davis is an absolute load inside. He's still raw as a pass-rusher but can be a run-stopping presence immediately. Seen as a first-round pick after his sophomore season, this is a bang-for-your-buck pick.

Wide Receiver

Best available: Tee Higgins, Clemson
A jump-ball dynamo at 6-foot-4, Higgins is a big-body receiver with elite body control and contested-catch ability. There's no way he makes it to the Raiders without a trade-up, though.

Possible second-round pick: Michael Pittman, USC
I love Pittman's game and he could give the Raiders a reliable, tough receiver right out of the gate. He's great at adjusting to the back-shoulder throw and has deceptive burst. If Pittman slides, the Raiders could benefit.

Third-round target: Chase Claypool, Notre Dame
Well, what do we have here? With Higgins, Pittman, Laviska Shenault, Denzel Mims and KJ Hamler all still on the board, along with several top running backs and defensive backs, there's now a chance Claypool could slide into the third round. By now you know what he brings. He's 6-foot-4, 238 pounds and moves at 4.42 speed. He can be a vertical threat outside or a "big slot" to move the chains on third down.

Running back

Best available: D'Andre Swift, Georgia
The Raiders would love it if Swift kept sliding until they could make a move up for the electric Bulldog back. Not going to happen, though. He'll be gone quick on Day 2.

Possible second-round target: Johnathan Taylor, Wisconsin
Taylor could be gone just as quick as Swift. There's no telling when or in what order the backs will go. A bruising, powerful back at 5-foot-10, 226 pounds, Taylor has excellent vision and great burst through the hole. He could be a good change-of-pace back for the Silver and Black.

Third-round target: Zack Moss, Utah
Like Claypool, Raiders insider Scott Bair and I have sung Moss' praises. He's strong, tough, quick and can make anyone miss. A similar back to Josh Jacobs, Moss could come in on any down and the game plan wouldn't change. I expect him to be high on the Raiders' list in Round 3.

Safety

Best available: Xavier McKinney, Alabama
Shocked he's still on the board. Probably the top player left, don't expect McKinney to be in the virtual green room much longer.

Possible second-round target: Grant Delpit, LSU
Delpit's missed tackle issues plagued him last season, as did a high-ankle sprain. But he's a hard-nosed safety who can cover tight ends and has no issue lining up over the slot. If his fall continues, how can the Raiders not look into going up to get him?

Third-round target: Ashtyn Davis, Cal
Davis has good cover skills and the speed to be a good center-field safety in the NFL. He also flashed the ability to be a good help in stopping the run game. With Damarious Randall on a one-year deal, don't be surprised if Gruden and Mayock put the final piece of their future secondary together and draft Davis if he's available late in the third round.
