The NFL announced Wednesday morning three regular-season games will be played in London in 2016 with a new stadium added to the rotation.

Neither the 49ers nor the Raiders will be involved in the London series next season. The 49ers have played twice in London since the series began in 2007. The Raiders played there in 2014.

--In Week 4, Oct. 2, the Jacksonville Jaguars will host the Indianapolis Colts at Wembley Stadium.

--In Week 7, Oct. 23, the St. Louis Rams will host the NFC East team that finishes in the same spot in the standings as the Rams. That game will be the first NFL game played at Twickenham Stadium, an 82,000-seat venue that is the home of England Rugby.

--And, in Week 8, Oct. 30, the Cincinnati Bengals will play host to Washington at Wembley Stadium.

“The passion our UK fans have shown for the NFL is overwhelming,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. “We are very appreciative of the strong and growing fan support, not only for the games, but for all of the related NFL events we host in the UK throughout the year. We look forward to welcoming new fans to their first NFL game in 2016 and welcoming back thousands of others that are helping our sport grow to new levels of popularity in London and beyond.”

The London games is expected to be targeted, along with the Thursday night package, for live global streamlining broadcasts, CSNBayArea.com reported last week.

Goodell traveled to the Bay Area to meet with 49ers CEO Jed York, a member of the NFL’s eight-person digital media committee, to speak with Silicon Valley executives. The two men were known to meet with Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer.

York confirmed the league is looking at the possibility of expanding the number of games that are streamed live next season after Yahoo and the NFL teamed up to draw huge numbers of viewers for the Oct. 25 game involving the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars in London.

“Roger and I met with multiple executives,” York said last week. “We’re certainly looking at the success we had with the OTT (live streaming) game with Yahoo and how we can expand on that for a larger package for the 2016 season.”
