Matt Breida signs non-guaranteed tender to remain with 49ers in 2020

Running back Matt Breida signed his one-year, $3.259 million tender with the 49ers on Thursday, the day before the deadline for restricted free agents to sign offer sheets with other teams.

The 49ers tendered Breida at the second-round level to prevent another team from signing him without providing the club any compensation. Breida entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie from Georgia Southern in 2017.

Breida’s contract for 2020 is not guaranteed. Breida rejoins a group of 49ers running backs that consists of Tevin Coleman, Raheem Mostert, Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson.

The 49ers could look to trade a running back during the draft or before the start of the regular season if everyone remains healthy.

Breida, 25, rushed for 1,902 yards and six touchdowns on 381 carries in his three NFL seasons. His rushing average was 5.0 yards per attempt. He also caught 67 passes for 561 yards and four touchdowns.
