SANTA CLARA – Wide receiver Marquise Goodwin returned to the team this week after sitting out the 49ers' past two games to deal with a serious family matter.
“It’s been awesome to feel the love from my team, and the support from them,” Goodwin said Friday in his first public comments since returning to the Bay Area on the eve of the 49ers’ game at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“At the beginning it was from afar because I wasn’t at the facility. Being around them and preparing for this week has been great for my morale personally. And, hopefully, that adds a different element on game day for the whole team.”

Goodwin declined to discuss any specifics for the excused absence.
“At the moment, not right now -- just out of respect for my family,” Goodwin said. “If they give me the OK, I’ll be willing to talk about it. But until then, just kind of keep it between us.”

Coach Kyle Shanahan met with Goodwin after the 49ers returned from Tampa, and it was decided it was best for him to take a week off. This week, Goodwin returned to participate in all meetings and practices, as the 49ers prepare to face the Denver Broncos on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium.

“I think it was good for ‘Quise just to be back in the building all week,” Shanahan said. “We all know that he’s dealing with some things. Hopefully, for him it gave him a chance to just get away from some of that stuff. And to come in and just be around his teammates and just play football and get his mind off some things.”
