Former 49ers head coach Steve Mariucci was reportedly interested in taking the same position with the Chargers once Norv Turner is let go, according to a report from Sports Illustrated's Peter King on Football Night in America.
But the current television analyst, out of coaching since the Detroit Lions fired him in 2005, took to the airwaves to set the record straight. Here's what Mariucci said on NFL Network:
"I would never comment on a coaching job where there's a coach in place, and the coach down there in San Diego happened to be a very good friend of mine, Norv Turner. There's no way I would ever discuss this right now, I don't know where it comes from. Let's just stop the nonsense, OK? Please."
Do you think Mariucci is just being polite and waiting until Turner's departure becomes official or is his disinterest in the job genuine?
