Jack Del Rio: Dennis Green ‘a real trailblazer'

Oakland Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio released a statement on the passing of Dennis Green.

“Dennis Green created an outstanding environment for his players and I was privileged to spend four great years under his guidance in Minnesota," Del Rio said.

"He was a real trailblazer and his impact on the game continues to live through the many successful coaches that he mentored. One of his phrases, or ‘Denny-isms’ as we call them, is ‘We’re going to plan our work and work our plan.’ I still use that ‘Denny-ism’ today. Coach Green is going to be missed dearly by everyone that was lucky enough to know him.”

Green died at the age of 67.

Green spent 10 seasons in Minnesota, leading the Vikings to eight playoff appearances and two NFC championship games. He only had one losing season and compiled an overall record of 97-62, a mark second only to Bud Grant in franchise history. That included a 15-1 regular season in 1998 spearheaded by a record-setting offense.
