Injury report: Murray remains out, RT Howard back to full health

ALAMEDA – Raiders running back Latavius Murray hasn’t practiced in a while. He missed his fifth straight session on Thursday as he continues to rest and rehabilitate a bout of turf toe originally suffered in a Week 4 victory over Baltimore.

Turf toe can be a painful, nagging injury that occurs when ligaments around the big toe joint are sprained. Rest is the main treatment, though orthotics can ease some discomfort.

Murray plays a position where he can play without much, if any, practice. The Raiders will designate his playing status against Kansas City on Friday in their official injury report.

Murray missed a victory over San Diego, where Jalen Richard, DeAndre Washington and Jamize Olawale split carries and averaged 3.6 yards per carry.

It seems likely the Raiders will start a different right tackle on Sunday against the Chiefs. Rookie Vadal Alexander missed his second straight practice with an ankle injury, though veteran Austin Howard’s ankle is healed and he’s ready to take over there. He has been taken off the parictipation report and is fully active in practice.

Linebacker Malcolm Smith (groin) remains limited, though there is some question whether he's ready to start and take significant snaps. He was available in a pinch against San Diego, though Perry Riley and Cory James took snaps on the interior.

Raiders tight end Clive Walford (knee) continued practicing as he tries to return after missing the previous game.

Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles, a noted Raiders killer, says he’s back to full health after being eased back in his return from ACL surgery. He should be ready to carry a full workload against the Raiders.
