How George Kittle, other 49ers players reacted to Madden 21 ratings

George Kittle didn't make the exclusive 99 Club in Madden NFL 21 as he came in just a hair short with a 98 overall rating. For the 49ers' star tight end, though, there are no hard feelings. It's all in good fun

"They don't want me to be great," Kittle said to 49ers.com. "That's what it is. They're holding me back, they don't want me to be great. Just because Christian McCaffrey is a 99 because he's beautiful and has biceps the size of my quads, doesn't also mean that I can't be a 99."

One area of the ratings Kittle isn't happy with, however, is his ability to break tackles. He's a monster in the open field, just ask Saints safety Marcus Williams.

The Madden rating makers gave Kittle just an 81 rating for breaking tackles, which isn't even the best on the 49ers. When Kittle found out Deebo Samuel (83) was rated higher in that category, he got up and left the interview.

"Sure, whatever," Kittle said when he returned. "I think I led the NFL in it the last two years, so it's whatever. ... I think you guys are scratching the surface on some of my talents. I'm upset that Deebo's better than me at breaking tackles."

The 49ers also showed linebacker Fred Warner and punter Mitch Wishnowsky their ratings as well. Warner said he's fine with his 87 overall rating for now, which ranks him fifth on the team, right behind Nick Bosa. But Warner wasn't happy with the 73 rating he received for his catching ability or the fact that Wishnowsky actually is better at breaking tackles than him in the game.

Wishnowsky just wanted to be higher than 70, and his wish came true. He's a 76 overall, and as long as he was on par with Kittle and Warner in goofy categories like punt returning, he was more than happy.
