
SAN FRANCISCO -- Running back Frank Gore has already gone over the 100-yard mark for the fourth consecutive game and is closing in on No. 2 on the 49ers' all-time rushing list.Gore rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown in the first half as the 49ers built a 17-3 lead over the Cleveland Browns at halftime Sunday at Candlestick Park.Gore entered the game in need of 110 yards to overtake Roger Craig as the No. 2 all-time leading rusher in 49ers history. Gore now has 7,058 career yards. Craig had 7,064 rushing yards with the 49ers. Joe "The Jet" Perry ranks No. 1 on the 49ers' list with 7,344 yards.Sunday's game marks the first time in Gore's career he has rushed for more than 100 yards in four consecutive games.
The 49ers set the tone immediately when Ahmad Brooks beat former 49ers lineman Tony Pashos for a sack and forced fumble of Browns quarterback Colt McCoy. Isaac Sopoaga recovered for the 49ers on the Cleveland 20-yard line.Four plays later, Gore punched it over from 4-yard out for a 7-0 lead with 12:44 remaining in the first quarter. Alex Smith later hit Michael Crabtree with a 2-yard touchdown to give the 49ers a 17-0 lead.Browns kicker Phil Dawson nailed a 52-yard field goal on the final play of the first half.Receiver Braylon Edwards returned to the lineup and caught three passes for 29 yards to lead the 49ers. Smith completed 10 of 13 passes for 108 yards and a touchdown in the first half.Joe Staley, the 49ers' left tackle, got into the act. He reported as eligible receiver on the 49ers' second drive. Staley caught a pass from Alex Smith, turned up field and gained 17 yards.The play, which came after Gore and Kendall Hunter had runs of 24 and 26 yards on back-to-back plays, helped set up David Akers' 29-yard field goal.Tight end Vernon Davis missed seven plays in the first half with an apparent left arm injury. Defensive end Ray McDonald has a left hamstring strain that might keep him out of the second half.
