SANTA CLARA -- Running back Frank Gore will not play in the Pro Bowl game due to "medical reasons," the 49ers confirmed on Tuesday.Gore told CSNBayArea.com on Monday that he planned to travel to Hawaii for the Pro Bowl but did not intend to play in the game. Gore ended the season healthy. He had not appeared on the 49ers' injury report since the first week of December, when he had an ankle sprain.
Seattle running back Marshawn Lynch was added to the NFC roster to replace Gore, a three-time Pro Bowl selection.
Two other 49ers, safety Dashon Goldson and cornerback Carlos Rogers, also will not participate in the Pro Bowl due to minor injuries.Goldson was limited with an ankle injury last week but played in the 49ers' season-ending loss to the New York Giants in the NFC Championship Game. Rogers nursed a minor knee injury late in the season.Long-snapper Brian Jennings on Monday was selected as this year's "need" player by the Green Bay Packers coaching staff. Jennings became the ninth 49ers player selected to the Pro Bowl, joining Gore, Goldson, Rogers, kicker David Akers, punter Andy Lee, defensive lineman Justin Smith, tackle Joe Staley and line Patrick Willis.It was the most 49ers players selected since the team sent 10 players following the 1995 season.
