SAN FRANCISCO -- The 49ers and the New York Giants arrived to their team hotels Saturday evening at approximately the same time. The difference is the Giants were delayed nearly two hours out of Newark, N.J., due to a mechanical problem. And the Giants were in the air for six hours on their cross-country flight.Meanwhile, the 49ers had their typical Saturday, which included a brief walk-through practice at the team's practice facility in Santa Clara. They never hold practices at Candlestick Park, and the field was covered with a tarp, anyway. The 49ers checked into their team hotel Saturday evening as part of their usual routine before home games.
When the 49ers fly to the East Coast for a Sunday game, they typically arrive late Friday evening. They'd get to their hotel more than 36 hours before kickoff. In comparison, the Giants arrived in San Francisco at 5 p.m. on Saturday -- NFC Championship Game Eve. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Candlestick Park.
