Garoppolo, Shanahan address bright spotlight on 49ers QB's personal life

Jimmy Garoppolo is quickly finding out what it's like to be the star player on an NFL team.

Last week, gossip website TMZ posted video of Garoppolo on a date with a porn star. As you might imagine, that story went crazy.

On Wednesday, with the 49ers reporting to Santa Clara for the first day of training camp, the media asked head coach Kyle Shanahan and Garoppolo about the TMZ story and whether Garoppolo learned anything from the experience.

"I never heard any of those articles. What are you talking about?" Shanahan joked.

"No, you talk to people. Jimmy came from a place where he saw people handle that spotlight and everything. So I do think Jimmy does have an idea. I think everyone does have an idea of how you should handle that spotlight but not everyone is in that spotlight and I've never in life commented on a player's date in July so I'm not going to start today because I don't think it really matters or pertains to us. But I do think that is a very good example, even though you know, you gotta learn how under the microscope we all are. And it's not just the quarterback, it's all players. The quarterback definitely gets more than anyone else. But I think it's a good learning experience for him and he's gotta know what comes with that stuff," Shanahan said.

Midway through his media availablity, Garoppolo was asked about Shanahan's comments.

"Life is different now. My life off the field, I've never really been very big on, you know, being very public with things, even social media, I'm not out there a ton. But my life is looked at differently and I'm under a microscope and like Kyle said, it is a good learning experience. Just have to take it in stride. It is what it is," Garoppolo said.
