Ford officially done for season

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. -- Receiverreturner Jacoby Ford's season has come to an end, cornerback Ron Bartell is on hiatus and cornerback Coye Francies and long snapper Nick Guess have had theirs resuscitated by being signed to the Raiders roster from the team's practice squad.Just another day-before-the-game in South Florida, right?Well, with Ford undergoing season-ending Lisfranc surgery on his left foot Tuesday and Bartell suffering a broken left shoulder blade in Oakland's opener the night before, as well as Pro Bowler long snapper Jon Condo still trying to come back from a concussion suffered against San Diego, the Raiders needed reinforcements. So none of the four moves are all that surprising.RELATED: Raiders key matchup No. 1: Lee vs. Tannehill
And while Ford, who re-injured his foot Aug. 17 at Arizona, was placed on Injured Reserve, Bartell was put on the league's new reserveinjured list that allows him to return later in the season. Per the new rule, teams can designate one player with a "major injury, defined as a setback that keeps that player from practicing or playing for at least six weeks from the date it occurred, as eligible for reactivation later in the same season." As such, Bartell can practice as soon as Oct. 27 and play again as early as Nov. 11 at Baltimore.Francies, meanwhile, was claimed off waivers by the Raiders the week of their final preseason game at Seattle, and was waived on Sept. 6. He was signed to the practice squad on Wednesday. Besides adding depth at cornerback, he can also return kickoffs.Guess, though, won a tryout with five other long snappers and was signed to the practice squad on Wednesday, after being in training camp with the Chargers.Whether Guess is active against Miami depends on if Condo passes his concussion tests or not.
