The 49ers' final play in Sunday's 18-15 loss to the Cardinals couldn't have been more fitting. It was a microcosm of a 1-7 season.
Down by three points with seven seconds left, the 49ers were just 9 yards out of field-goal range. Then, on the decisive play, the ball was snapped over quarterback C.J. Beathard's head and rolled more than 20 yards before he picked it up. Needless to say, Beathard's last-gasp throw didn't do much, and the game was over.

The 49ers played without starting center Weston Richburg, which clearly hurt them at the most important part of the game. Erik Magnuson slid over to play center, and he was emotional after the game when speaking about his role on the fateful play.
The Cardinals now have two wins this season -- both over the 49ers.
