The Indianapolis Colts today signed unrestricted free agent quarterback Scott Tolzien.
“We looked at a number of quarterbacks during this process and we felt Scott fit us on a number of levels,” said Colts General Manager Ryan Grigson. “He is a young, highly intelligent, tough and driven individual who we feel possesses a lot of potential.”
Tolzien, 6-2, 213 pounds, spent the last three seasons with the Green Bay Packers (2013-15). He has played in six career NFL games (two starts) and completed 56-of-91 passes for 721 yards with one touchdown and five interceptions. Additionally, Tolzien has carried the ball eight times for 52 yards and one touchdown. Prior to Green Bay, he spent time with the San Francisco 49ers and San Diego Chargers.

In 2015, Tolzien served as the No. 2 quarterback in Green Bay for all 16 games and saw limited action in three contests. He spent the entire 2014 season on the Packers 53-man roster and was a gameday inactive for the first 15 games of the season.
In 2013, Tolzien spent the first nine weeks of the season on Green Bay’s practice squad before being elevated to the 53-man roster on November 6. He played in three games (two starts) in 2013 and completed 55-of-90 passes for 717 yards with one touchdown and five interceptions. Tolzien also totaled five carries for 55 yards and one touchdown. In Week 10 against the Philadelphia Eagles, he came off the bench early in the game to replace injured backup quarterback Seneca Wallace. Tolzien completed 24-of-39 passes for 280 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. He earned his first career NFL start in Week 11 against the New York Giants and completed 24-of-34 passes for 339 yards and three interceptions. Tolzien’s 339 yards were the most by a Packers quarterback in his first start, passing Mike Tomczak’s previous mark of 317. He brought his two-game total to 619 passing yards, the most by a quarterback in his first two games in Green Bay history and the fourth-most in NFL history.
In 2012, Tolzien was inactive for 13 games and all three postseason contests, including Super Bowl XLVII, with the San Francisco 49ers. He spent the 2011 season on San Francisco’s 53-man roster, but was inactive for all 16 regular season games and both postseason contests.
