Scot McCloughan was mad online Monday night.
The former San Francisco 49ers general manager took issue with injured quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo not standing on the sideline during his team's Monday Night Football game against the New York Giants. The longtime executive asked why Garoppolo -- whose season is over because of a torn ACL -- watched the game in a suite instead of with his 49ers teammates.

SIGN UP HERE As NBC Sports Bay Area's Jennifer Lee Chan reported last month, neither Garoppolo nor running back Jerick McKinnon are allowed on the sideline while they recover from torn ACLs. But that didn't stop McCloughan from tweeting about it, and he pointed to Carson Wentz standing on the Eagles' sideline after tearing his ACL last year as an example.
Of course, that's not exactly how it happened all of last year, either, as many people on Twitter were quick to point out.
The lesson, as always, is to think -- and use a search engine to fact check -- before you tweet.
McCloughan worked in the 49ers' front office from 2005 to 2010. He was promoted from vice president of player personnel to GM in February 2008, He was dismissed, but he played a pivotal role building the 49ers into contenders, and he did the same with the Seattle Seahawks as a senior personnel executive from 2010 to 2013.
