Ex-49er claims some players smoked marijuana before Jim Harbaugh-era games

In the least surprising news of the day, football players smoke marijuana from time to time.

“I feel like my best games were when I was highest,” former 49ers linebacker Nick Moody said to Phil Barber of The Press Democrat.

Moody, a 2013 sixth-round draft pick, revealed he wasn't the only player on the Jim Harbaugh-coached 49ers who routinely smoked weed before games in '13 and 2014. Several players had a pre-game routine of relaxation by toking up before taking the field.

“And we were real good, too,” Moody said to Barber.

He's not lying. The 49ers made the NFC Championship Game in Moody's rookie year. The free-agent linebacker, who spent two years in San Francisco, refused to name any past teammates whom he smoked with, however.

What Moody did reveal is how former 49ers general manager Trent Baalke acted when the linebacker was suspended four games after testing positive for THC. Baalke, according to Moody, said: “What are we gonna do with you when you get some real money?”

While Moody smoked weed to relax and make his body feel better, he said certain coaches and team executives got black-out drunk.

“Every time we go on the road, you come back to the hotel smashed. Every time,” Moody said. “But I can’t smoke and watch TV?”

Moody last played in the NFL in 2016, when he was in one game for the Washington Redskins. The 28-year-old now is partner in CLC Brand Labs, an indoor marijuana production operations in Desert Hot Springs, Calif.
